Evaluation Report

Steps taken for compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level A and Level AA in May 2026:

Automated testing with Chrome browser extensions WAVE, ARC Toolkit, and axe DevTools. Steps taken towards compliance included:

  • Disabled hidden search form in header;
  • Contrast adjustments;
  • Enabled “zoom” on mobile devices;
  • Replaced Google map with image;
  • Corrected HTML for embedded iframe on Events page;
  • Added or edited alt texts for a selection of images;
  • Added underline to links so they are distinguishable without color;
  • Adjusted headings (hierarchy), tweaked font size on page titles, and removed unnecessary tags;
  • Marked links to PDF documents;
  • Tested accessibility of PDF documents with Adobe Pro’s accessibility checker tool;
  • Removed redundant title text;
  • Fixed miscellaneous alerts like bullet list formatting, link texts, table layouts, and redundant links.

Manual testing and content adjustments, including:

  • Navigating the website with keyboard only: Added CSS to make submenu appear by tab on parent item in menu; added JS & CSS for “Skip to Content” option;
  • Screenreader testing on desktop with Mac’s VoiceOver tool: Made slight tweaks to tables (library staff & board);
  • Screenreader testing on mobile with iPhone’s VoiceOver tool: Added custom code to access mobile menu (hamburger);
  • Zoom/reflow testing (desktop and mobile device).
